Tales of Eternia Best Weapons and Equipment

Reid's Eternal Sword, Farah's Omni Weapon and the six-piece legendary set behind Legendary Arsenal, plus armour, accessories and Gald priorities.

Tales of Eternia Best Weapon and Equipment Guide (Remastered)

The best weapon in Tales of Eternia is Reid's Eternal Sword: 890 slash and 850 thrust on the original equipment tables, Time element, a guaranteed drop from the arena cameo fight against Cless. Farah's ceiling is the Omni Weapon (800 punch / 805 kick, Light) from Maxwell, Meredy's is the Eternia Melody (750, Time) from a Shizel Castle chest, Keele's is the Crystal Rod (740) from Glimmer Spire, and Chat's is the Wonder Bag (780, +8 Luck). Max finds nothing; he buys his guns behind the Craymel Cannon in Shileska HQ, and his Mega Launcher costs 320,000 Gald and rates 955, the highest single Attack figure in any original weapon list.

Every number below is original-release data. No official Remastered source has published a weapon, armour or accessory value, so treat these ratings as original-version figures rather than 2026 measurements.

  • Legendary Arsenal is a six-piece set that only Reid can wear.
  • Two of those six pieces have no confirmed source in the original tables, and one sits in a dungeon this release unlocks far earlier.

Weapon Types by Character

Every character is locked to their own families, so a best-weapon list has to be built per character rather than per weapon class.

Character Weapon families Top pick (original-release ratings) Where it comes from
Reid Hershel Swords, Spears, Axes, Halberds, Daggers, L-Swords Eternal Sword, 890/850, Time Cless, 100% chance
Farah Oersted Knuckles only Omni Weapon, 800/805, Light Maxwell, 100% chance
Keele Zeibel Rods, Maces Crystal Rod, 740; Star Mace, 650, Elemental Glimmer Spire; Beast Ogre, 10%
Meredy Whistles only Eternia Melody, 750, Time, +5 Intelligence Shizel Castle, chest
Chat Bags only Wonder Bag, 780, +8 Luck Gunner enemy, 4% chance
Max Guns only Mega Launcher, 955 320,000 Gald behind the Craymel Cannon

Reid's list is the only one with real choice in it, and the choice is element versus raw numbers: the Last Fencer (765/758, +3 Evade, +5 Luck) is the strongest sword with no element attached, which makes it the safe pick when you do not know what is ahead.

The Six-Piece Legendary Set

The Legendary Arsenal achievement names the requirement without naming the items. The six pieces are the Druaga set, all of them Reid equipment, and the achievements and trophies guide tracks it alongside the Collector's Book.

Piece Slot Where it comes from (original-release data)
Excalibur Sword, Light, +5 Luck Ruins of Volt, plot event
Blue Shield Shield, +32 Evade Not listed in the original tables; a 2006 GameFAQs thread places it on a bonus-dungeon boss
Golden Helm Helm, +5 Evade Shrine underneath Farlos Sanctuary
Golden Armor Body, 49 Defence, resists Water, Wind, Fire and Light Glimmer Spire, chest
Hyper Gauntlet Accessory, Attack +10, Accuracy +10 Source unknown; a PS1 playthrough archive credits it to Regulus in Nereid's Labyrinth
Jet Boots Accessory, faster movement in battle and on foot Glimmer Spire, chest

Community documentation of the original release calls the set reward the Ishtar effect: a periodic restore of HP and TP, immunity to status ailments, a small attack and defence lift, and a glow on Reid. No official Remastered page describes any of that, so verify it on your own save.

Where Nereid's Labyrinth now opens

The official Japanese change list says the dungeon unlocks during a first playthrough when you reach the interior of Shizel Castle; the widely quoted English translation says Balir Castle. Either way it no longer needs a cleared save, which makes the Hyper Gauntlet a first-run target instead of a run-two clean-up.

That fight is also Reid's best value in the game: Nereid's Labyrinth yields Gungnir (600/999, the highest thrust of his spears), the Gaia Cleaver (999/500, the highest of his axes) and, if the playthrough archive is right, the Hyper Gauntlet. The Glimmer Spire and EX dungeon page maps the chest route for the other two legendary pieces, which share that dungeon with the Crystal Rod and the Beam Shield.

Reid's Sword Ladder

Weapon Slash/Thrust Accuracy Element Source Buy price
Long Sword 70/70 0 - Mintche shop 300
Shamsel 260/200 0 - Barole chest -
Dao Blade 295/285 0 - Chambard shop 4,400
Saw Saber 355/350 5 - Imen shop 8,000
Ogre Sword 500/470 0 - Tinnsia shop 20,000
Voltic Sword 550/565 10 Volt Ruins of Volt chest -
Ninja Sword 740/720 10 - Hidden underwater spot in Inferia -
Last Fencer 765/758 10 - Imen sidequest -
Eternal Sword 890/850 0 Time Cless -

Spare the Gald on the mid-tier shop swords. Dao Blade at 4,400 and Saw Saber at 8,000 are modest steps over chest finds you can walk to. Reid's other families matter because some enemies take a spear thrust where a slash does nothing special: the Partisan (155/260) and Short Lance (100/220) are cheap shop spears, the Flame Spear (500/780, Fire) sits in a Regulus Knoll chest, and the Trident (240/400, Water) in Mt. Farlos.

Armour, Shields and Helms

Armour is more restricted than weapons: the original tables give each character a short list of what they can physically wear, and there is no way around it.

Character Can equip
Reid Armour (plate, mail), shields, helms
Farah Cloaks, bracelets, ribbons, mittens
Keele Robes, bracelets, circlets
Meredy Cloaks, bracelets, mittens
Max Robes, helms, bracelets
Chat Cloaks, hats, bracelets, mittens

Official source: Tales of Eternia Remastered armour tables (RPGClassics shrine, original release)

The best body pieces are Golden Armor (49 Defence, resisting four elements, from a Glimmer Spire chest), Mumbane (42, Shizel Castle), Star Cloak (40) and Spirit Robe (34, resisting all magic). Head and arm slots matter less than the Evade and Intelligence they carry: Captain's Hat is +12 Evade, Holy Circlet is +18 Intelligence, and Chaos Shield (40 Defence) is a 12% drop from a Fire Warrior.

Two honest warnings. The original tables list several head and arm items with negative defence, Golden Helm among them, and nothing explains whether that is a real penalty or a transcription problem in the old data. And Star Cloak, Star Helm, Persha Boots, Blue Shield and Hyper Gauntlet all have their source recorded as unknown, which points at endgame content those tables cover poorly.

Accessories Worth the Slot

Most of the best accessories are boss rewards rather than shop stock.

Accessory Effect Source (original release)
Force Ring Halves physical damage Defeat Shadow, Shadow Cave
Reflect Ring Elemental damage -20% Defeat Rem, Regulus Knoll
Persha Boots All damage -30% Source unknown
Faerie Ring Halves TP costs Defeat Spiral or Maxwell
Derri Emblem Accuracy +100 Defeat Sekundes, Shizel's Castle
Black Onyx Max HP +30% Defeat Efreet; Balir Castle chest
Moon Crystal Max TP +30% Defeat Gnome, Mine of Gnome
Krona Symbol Immunity to all status ailments Trade 50 Lens to the woman in Chambard
Combo Command Lets Reid and Farah use all their artes Trade 10 Lens to the woman in Chambard
Sephira Doubles Gald from battle Defeat Siren, Sunken Ship

The Lens desk in Chambard is the best accessory shop in the game and it does not take money. Combo Command for 10 Lens is the one that changes how Reid and Farah's arte lists function, and Force Ring plus Reflect Ring stack into a genuinely different defensive profile for whoever holds the front line.

Item Priorities

Shop consumables are simple: Apple Gel restores a third of HP, Lemon Gel two thirds, Melange Gel a third of both bars, Miracle Gel two thirds of both, Orange Gel a third of TP, Life Bottle revives, Panacea Bottle clears status, and the Elixir fills both gauges. The interesting items are the ones that permanently change somebody.

Item Effect Where to find it
Sage Max HP +5% Efreet Gorge, Mt. Celsius, Glimmer Spire
Red Sage Max HP +10% Ruins of Volt, Shizel's Castle
Savory Max TP +5% Mine of Gnome, Glimmer Spire
Lavender Strength +1 Efreet Gorge, Mt. Celsius, Glimmer Spire
Charm Bottle 30% discount at every shop Forest of Temptation
Miracle Charm 50% discount at every shop Celestia
Spectacles Reveals enemy HP, strengths and weaknesses All item shops
Rune Bottle Converts one item into another Van Eltia shop
Element Shards and Crystals Add Vitality to a Greater Craymel Chests, Celestia underwater, Jini auctions

Official source: Tales of Eternia Remastered item list (RPGClassics shrine, original release)

Two of these deserve a permanent slot. A Charm Bottle turns every future purchase into a 30% discount and the Miracle Charm doubles that to 50%, so on Max's 320,000 Gald gun the charm saves more than most sidequests pay. Spectacles cost almost nothing and answer the elemental question that decides whether your 890 sword or a 610 Flame Sword is the better swing. Shards and Crystals instead feed the Craymel Cage: each Shard adds 1 Vitality to a named Craymel and each Crystal adds 2, so one Crystal in the right cage beats three Shards in the wrong one.

How to Spend Gald Early

  1. Buy Life Bottles and standard gels before any weapon upgrade.
  2. Buy a Charm Bottle as soon as Forest of Temptation opens, then the Miracle Charm once Celestia does.
  3. Buy armour for whoever is being hit, which in practice means Reid, the only one who can wear plate at all.
  4. Treat Max as a separate budget: his top four guns cost roughly 40,000, 80,000, 160,000 and 320,000 Gald.

The leveling and Gald farming page covers the loops that pay for step four. If you would rather buy levels than weapons, the Deluxe Edition's growth item is officially "a set of various consumable items" and the separate Lv. Up packs are purchasable level grants, both on the Deluxe Edition and DLC page.

Missable Items and Carryover

Two new map icons matter here. A star icon marks valuable items such as the collector's and monster encyclopedias, and an hourglass icon marks events tied to titles and to items with a limited acquisition window; both toggle from the Destination Icon setting. Items also transfer, and the official second-playthrough list includes items in possession, Lens progress and both encyclopedias as separate switches. The New Game Plus and carryover page walks that list, and the sidequests and missables page catalogues the timed pickups the hourglass warns about.

FAQ

What is the best weapon in Tales of Eternia? Reid's Eternal Sword, at 890 slash and 850 thrust on the original tables, with the Time element. If you want a neutral alternative, the Last Fencer at 765/758 is the strongest sword on his list with no element attached.

Which six pieces count for Legendary Arsenal? The Druaga set: Excalibur, Blue Shield, Golden Helm, Golden Armor, Hyper Gauntlet and Jet Boots. All six are Reid equipment, and the achievement only fires while he is wearing the full set.

Where do I get the Hyper Gauntlet and the Blue Shield? Neither has a confirmed source in the original tables, which is why older guides disagree. The best-supported lead for the Hyper Gauntlet is Regulus in Nereid's Labyrinth; a 2006 forum thread places the Blue Shield on a bonus-dungeon boss. Both are original-version reports, not Remastered verification.

Do these numbers match the Remastered release? No source has published Remastered weapon or armour values, so every number here is original-release data. Comparisons within one table should still hold, but do not read a rating as a 2026 measurement.
