Tales of Eternia Titles Guide and How to Earn Them

Titles in Tales of Eternia: what they do, which ones map to achievements, and the day-one patch that finally made titles carry into a second run.

Tales of Eternia Titles Guide and How to Earn Them

Titles in Tales of Eternia are collectible labels that sit under each character's name, not upgrades. The PlayStation-era documentation for this game states outright that they "don't do anything except maybe show what you have and haven't done," and nothing in Bandai Namco's remaster material describes a stat, arte or equipment effect for them either. What you are collecting is volume: the original title list defines 86 titles across the six permanent party members plus Rassius, and the remaster leans on those names hard, because four of the 50 Steam achievements borrow a title's name and several more are renamed versions of one. The one real change in this release is transfer, and it arrived after launch: v.2.0.0, the day-one patch, added titles to the second-playthrough carryover, reversing the line in the July change list that said titles were excluded.

  • Title conditions below are original-release data from the 2000 PlayStation game and its 2005 PSP port, not values measured in the remaster.
  • Nothing official describes titles affecting combat, so treat them as a collection checklist with two achievement hooks.
  • Titles transfer into a second playthrough only on v.2.0.0 or later.

What Titles Actually Do

Each of the six permanent party members plus the temporarily playable Rassius carries a title, and the original list is explicit that showing them under a character's name is the whole point: many titles give no advantage in progress at all. The same framing turns up in the Japanese official guide book, which tells readers to collect them as one of the game's side pleasures rather than for power.

That makes accuracy about where titles come from more useful than speculation about what they do. Every title in the original list lands in one of four buckets:

Source Example Notes
Level milestones Reid's Squire at level 10, Legendary Knight at 99 One title per milestone, per character
Battle or time feats Sonic Warrior, Combo Master Per-run records, so a second run re-earns them from scratch
Minigames and side events Master Coxwain, King of Balloons, Cupid Several are tied to events with a closing window
Completion goals Curator, Craymel Master Collector's Book, Monster Collection, all recipes, all skills

The remaster does add one piece of help here. Its change list gives the hourglass destination icon to "events related to titles and items that have a limited acquisition period," so the map now warns you before a title-bearing event closes. That icon is the single most useful addition this release makes for title hunters, because it turns the original list's silent deadlines into something you can see.

Titles Are Not Stat Boosts

No official source for this release ties a title to stats, artes or gear. If a guide tells you a title raises a parameter, it is describing a different game or guessing. The only mechanical statement Bandai Namco has published about titles is that they now transfer between runs.

Achievements That Reuse Title Names

The achievement list borrows from the title list so directly that the fastest way to understand an achievement is to look up the title behind it. The table below pairs what the Steam achievements page showed on October 17, 2026 with the original-release title of the same name and its original condition.

Official source: Tales of Eternia Remastered achievements (Steam Community)

Steam achievement Global unlock Original title Original condition
King of Balloons 2.3% King of Balloons (Reid) Clear five rounds of Chamballoon in Chambard
Master Coxswain 1.4% Master Coxwain (Reid) Rasheans river race in under 1 minute 6 seconds
Reid's 10-Title Triumph 1.0% none Achievement-only: tracks Reid's title count
Legendary Arsenal 0.9% none Collect and wear all six pieces of the legendary set
Speed-Eating Champion 0.9% likely King of Hunger (Reid) Win the Carousel Sushi game; the achievement names Kong the Man
Curator 0.8% Curator (Keele) Complete the Collector's Book
Choo-Choo Girl 0.7% Choo-Choo Girl (Meredy) Original asked for three delivered letters; the achievement says all of the mail
Certified Protagonist 0.7% Gladiator (Reid) Defeat Cress, the Albane School swordsman
My Heart Belongs to the Sea 0.7% likely Sea Lover (Chat) Upgrade the Van Eltia, including the Aibird conversion
Seaworthy Navigator 0.7% likely First Officer (Chat) Win the Race Around Celestia
Train Bombardier 0.7% Trolley Bomber (Reid) Original asked for over 20,000 points; the achievement asks for perfect detonation timing
Every Plank in Its Place 0.6% likely Interior Decorator (Chat) Fit something into all four cabins of the Van Eltia
Meredy's 10-Title Triumph 0.6% none Achievement-only: tracks Meredy's title count

Three things about that table. Four rows reuse a title name word for word, meaning King of Balloons, Master Coxswain, Curator and Choo-Choo Girl, and a fifth is the same event renamed, since Train Bombardier covers what the original list called Trolley Bomber. The rows marked likely match on condition rather than name, so treat those four as the best available mapping rather than a confirmed one. The rows marked none are achievements the remaster added on top of the old title list, and two of them confirm something the original list never states: the game counts titles per character, first for Reid and then for Meredy, at a threshold of ten. And the page only shows 27 of the 50 achievements without signing in, so that slice rotates between visits. The percentages are launch-week readings from October 17, 2026 and will drift; Master Coxswain read 1.5 percent on an earlier visit the same day, and the two lowest rows here come from that earlier pass rather than the one that produced the rest.

The Level Ladder and the Reach Goals

Level titles are the backbone of the list, and every character's ladder is written against a different set of milestones. Meredy and Max skip the level 10 step entirely, Chat starts at 20, and Rassius stops at 30 because he is only playable for part of the story.

Character Default title Level milestones
Reid Hershel Hunter Squire 10, Master Swordsman 30, Knight 60, Legendary Knight 99
Farah Oersted Farmer Fighter 10, Kung-Fu Master 30, Silent Assassin 60, Iron Fist 99
Keele Zeibel Student Graduate Student 10, Ph.D. Student 30, Professor 60, Chancellor 99
Meredy Foreigner? Breeder 30, Trainer 60, Appraiser 99
Chat Captain Voyager 20, Pirate 40, Viking 60, Sea King 99
Max Boss Ruler 30, Almighty 60, Immortal 99
Rassius Travelling Salesman Mr. Incorrigible 30

The question marks are the original list's own punctuation, kept here so the names match what veterans remember. Beyond levelling, each character has one title for mastering everything in a system, and those are the ones a completion run actually has to plan for.

Character All skills All recipes Other completion titles
Reid Supreme Patriot Gourmet Master Explorer (seven Treasures of Celestia), Aurora Master (all three Aurora skills), Lens Hunter (collect every Lens)
Farah Ultimate Beauty Kitchen Specialist none
Keele none listed Grand Chef Craymel Master (all ten Greater Craymels), Curator (Collector's Book), King of Monsters (Monster Collection)
Meredy Fringe Master Charismatic Cook Fringe Master doubles as the spell-creation goal
Chat Gadget Master Kitchen King none
Max Craymel Shooter Head Chef none

Keele's Craymel Master sits on the same ten-Greater-Craymel hunt that drives the Craymel Cage and Greater Craymels guide, and the recipe titles sit on top of the cooking system covered in the recipes and cooking guide. If you want those two titles, budget a full pass of both systems rather than a partial one.

Minigame and Side-Event Titles

Most of the interesting titles come from minigames and from events that close when you walk past them, which is exactly what the new hourglass icon is pointing at. Locations and conditions below are original-release data.

Disc numbers need translating. They are PS1 packaging, not story gates: the original shipped on three discs, as the conditions themselves show by referring to Discs 1, 2 and 3. So Disc 1 means "while you are still in the Inferia half" and Disc 3 means "late in the story", and the remaster ships as one download with no disc change to line them up against. The Katrine chain behind Cupid is the clearest example of why the hourglass icon matters, since the six Disc 1 meetings must all happen before the story moves on. Item and event routes of that kind are grouped in the sidequests and missables guide.

One Title to Test in Your Own Copy

Star Dancer asks for two-player mode in the Jini dance hall, and every version of this release is single-player: the remaster follows the PSP port, which already dropped the PlayStation original's local multiplayer, and its store listing carries the single-player tag only. Bandai Namco has published no note changing that condition, so flag it rather than assuming it is either impossible or automatic.

Feats, Time Limits and the Odd Ones

The remaining titles are records, story grants and a few joke entries. Conditions are original-release data, and every record-based title resets on a new playthrough unless titles are carried over.

Title Character Earned by
Gladiator Reid Beat Cress, the Albane School swordsman
Fastest Man Reid Reach Shizel Castle in under 20 hours of play
Sonic Warrior Reid Win any battle in under one second
Speedster Reid Reach Shizel Castle with an average battle time under 15 seconds
Combo Master Reid Land a combo of 100 hits or more
Berserker Reid Win over 256 battles in Hardcore mode
Survivor Reid Take more than 100 game overs and choose Retry each time
Millionaire Reid Hold over 10 million Gald, which you keep even after spending it
Namco Teacher, Namco Professor, Namco Otaku Reid Pass the beginner, intermediate and expert exams in Mintche
Reckless Farah Granted automatically by the story
Performer?, Craymel Mage?, Craymel Engineer Meredy Granted automatically by the story
Mr. Carefree Max Granted automatically by the story

Sonic Warrior is the one to set up deliberately: winning a battle in under a second needs a party that can open with a killing arte. Fastest Man and Speedster pull in opposite directions, since rushing the map and fighting slowly cannot both be true of one run.

The Day-One Patch That Made Titles Carry Over

At launch the transfer screen did not include titles, and the source list was explicit about it. The July change list published before release listed the carryover categories and then added the line "Titles are not transferred." The day-one patch reversed that.

Official source: Tales of Eternia Remastered - Regarding the Release of Update Data (Day 1 Patch)

The patch notes from Bandai Namco list three changes: a Font Style option that only works with the language set to Japanese, a fix for some text bugs, and "Added Titles to the carryover elements for the second playthrough and beyond." Every platform shipped this as v.2.0.0, with per-platform update sizes ranging from about 300 MB on the original Switch to about 7 GB and 8 GB on Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S, where the quoted figure includes the game itself. The Japanese feature page marks the same entry as a v.2.0.0 addition and notes the title transfer requires updating, so a disc or cartridge copy played offline keeps the old behaviour.

The practical effect is narrower than it sounds, and that is the honest read. Titles are cosmetic, so carrying them over does not make a second run stronger. What it does is protect collection progress, which matters for two kinds of player: anyone chasing the two ten-title achievements, and anyone who earned a one-shot title such as Cupid or Chamballoon's King of Balloons and does not want a single missed event to wipe the record. The transfer screen toggles each category on or off individually, so you can take titles without taking learned techniques or items if you want a harder second run. The full nine-category list is broken down in the New Game Plus and carryover guide.

What the patch did not do is publish a title list for this release. There is still no official count of how many titles the remaster ships with, and no official remaster table of conditions. Every name and unlock condition on this page traces back to the original release's documentation and the official guide book, which is why the tables above are labelled the way they are. The original vs remastered comparison covers the rest of what this build changes, and if you want the level ladders in practice, the fastest route is still the one in the leveling and farming guide.

FAQ

Do titles do anything in Tales of Eternia Remastered? No documented effect. Titles show under a character's name, the original release's own documentation calls them a record of what you have done, and Bandai Namco has never described a stat, arte or gear bonus for them in this release. The only official mechanical statement about titles is the v.2.0.0 carryover addition.

Do titles carry over to a second playthrough? Yes, on v.2.0.0 or later. The pre-release change list said titles were not transferred, and the day-one patch added them to the transfer list as a per-category toggle. If you are playing an unpatched copy, or you started a run before updating, the title option will not be there.

How many titles are there in Tales of Eternia? The original-release list documents 86 across seven characters: 33 for Reid, 12 for Farah, 11 each for Keele and Meredy, 10 for Chat, 7 for Max and 2 for Rassius. The remaster has published no count of its own, so that 86 is an original-release figure and the remaster may differ at the margins.

Why does an achievement mention Tales of Phantasia? Because it maps to Reid's Gladiator title, earned by beating Cress, the Albane School swordsman. Cress Albane is the lead of Tales of Phantasia, and the achievement text points players there as a nod rather than as a requirement.

Which titles can I lose permanently? The ones attached to time-limited events. Cupid depends on six Katrine meetings in the Disc 1 stretch, and several minigame titles sit in towns you leave behind. The remaster's hourglass destination icon exists to mark exactly these events, so watch for it rather than trusting a list.
